S P O O N

from the ancient egyptians to
now, you feed us, spoil us, indulge us, nurture
us, you,
armoured tadpole, thought for food,
hold my breakfast on your naval and
my day on your shoulders

how is it that you feed our
ego on one side and humble us on the other; you are
the paradox in my kitchen drawer, the
shakespearean joker of my cutlery store

you are my symbol of home
you allow no tear to fall by the hand
of an onion and make the most
rich of delights, and even so
you nurture both
the shell and infinite when both
naked and clothed, for
even when empty you feed the spiritual
mind and soul.

symbol of civilization, welcome us into your cave
so that we can be soothed by your
humbling side, and
reflect our true light so that we may grow
within as we grow without.
